Title Floorhand

Primarily responsible for assisting in the setting up and taking down of the drilling rig and equipment, the Floorhand also plays a critical role in handling, sorting and moving drill tools, pipe, cement and other drilling specific materials. Floorhands may also be asked to help in maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Responsibilities can extend to the manipulation of pipe sections or drill stems at the rig floor during drilling. The Floorhand can also be called to drive crew tricks in an effort to transport necessary materials and/or equipment.

Title Motorhand

The Motorhand is primarily responsible for maintaining specific engines, water pumps, water lines, steam lines, boilers and other assigned machinery. Other equipment on the rig can also be included in daily monitoring requirements as well as movement of equipment around the drilling site.

Title Derrick Hand

Responsible for the uppermost section of the drilling string as it is brought from or lowered into the wellbore or drill hole. As a  Derrickhand, you will oversee a bulk of the machinery on the rig. Further responsibilities include: conditioning of the drilling fluid, circulation of the machinery and will work with mud systems, monitor and mix weight correctly while reporting any changes.

Derrickhands spend approximately a quarter of their time in the rigs derrick and play the lead roll in stacking and guiding pipe as it is tripped in and out or reconnected into the hole. The position requires mixing chemicals, monitoring pump manifolds and excellent communication with team member working in the vicinity.

Title Driller

The Driller is responsible for monitoring and keeping track of of the crews that work on the derrick rig. They are expected to follow the regulations of the company and ensure that their crew does the same. This will involve enforcing company policies as well as the safety rules and regulations stipulated by the PPE. Drillers should be prepared to consistently verify equipment and log the data as well as focus on safety for the entire crew.

Title Rig Manager

Oversees and is responsible for the entire rig operation. This can include, but is not limited to: set up, take down and moving, as well as  the safety of all crew members. Responsibilities also include regular  paperwork and all other business matters pertaining to rig management. The Rig Manager is also in charge of making sure that the operational procedures comply with the environmental and government regulations as well as meet production and cost ranges.
